Research

       My research project is basically how women in the classical world were able to overcome male dominance and be successful. Kind of like how maybe Albert Einstein was able to become one of the most successful scientists in history, but he never got good grades in school. He overcame all the expectations he had been given and filled in half of a textbook. So this thought combined with rights and responsibilities led my to thinking of classical period women. During that period of time, women were associated a lot with their rights in comparison to men. So, I connected their rights with overcoming the rights and their given responsibilities and becoming successful women who were successful.

      Thesis: Many classical period civilizations were male dominated, of these male-dominated civilizations, subordinate women tried to increase their quantity of rights by extending the boundaries of the women’s original rights. Some other civilizations were very close to having gender equality and among these civilizations women were more distinct in successes of their civilization by achieving new and more significant responsibilities with the coming of rights.

Divergent: The choosing ceremony

They called my name, my mind still swirling from Abnegation to Dauntless, and even more Amity, I had absolutely no idea. Abnegation was the selfless and kind factor, but I wanted to have fun and I also wanted to do things I could never do in Abnegation. Dauntless was fun, and exciting, and I am brave, but I would never fit into their brutal lifestyle. Amity is peaceful and kind, they only love and never hate, but I also want to be brave and selfless sometimes.
There I was, the knife was inches away, and my blood belonged somewhere, whether I knew where it belonged to or not. I looked to my right and left, then to my parents off in the distance, how I would love to talk to them for a fraction of a second. I also recognized how everybody was here for my life decision, for whatever factor I would be stuck in for the rest of my life, and my life depended on this moment.
I picked up the knife, and looked at the blade that got sharper every second. I only felt a little bit of pain as I became closer to my life sentence. You may not believe this, but I stood there in front of everybody and did eenie-minie-moe between the three bowls and just like that, I was going to the factor Amity. Everybody was shocked and so was I, but sometimes you just have to let fate fall in the hands of chance.

My Research Project

My research project is on successful women of classical times and how the women affect their particular civilization. In the classical period of ancient history, most civilizations were male dominated. These patriarchal societies left little room for achievements of ancient women. I'm researching mainly the women that were able to fill these little spaces of room and what the women had to do to become successful which, for me, is very inspiring and interesting.
My topic is important because since the classical period civilizations were male-dominated, it's hard to recognize female efforts focussed on being successful and significant. Not only that, but to see how their successes have impacted modern lives is also important.
This week I'm going to focus on my annotated bibliographies and try to revise them into complete, formal, and informative bibliographies. If I can do this then hopefully it'll help me to form my rough draft and later on, I'll have an even better final draft. When I first did my bibliographies, I had trouble on filling out all of the requirements of the annotated bibliographies and later I used some about.com articles because they were fast, easy, and informative, but now I know they were not reliable sources so I need to go back and find more reliable sources. Now that I've seen Dr. D's presentation I also need to go back and do more research on my sources. And then, the very last thing I have to do is find a primary source or two and do my annotated bibliography right this time.

Martine's prompt: What is a book that has made you think or changed your mind.

       The best book and the most influential upon my life has been The Fault in our Stars. The characters are young victims of cancer and its negative effects on the lives of others, however it's a book more about what can happen if you go and live your life, what happens when you go out into the world and make mistakes, learn lessons, etc.
       While there are some very inspirational and sincere moments about what it means when you try to live and be lively in a condition where you know eventually your body is going to give up, there is reality, and the book is fairly sad. But this too influences me and teaches me that no matter what sad happens, life does go on, and you have to go find more things to be happy about. Overall, this book really has told me about life. I would recommend it to anybody.

Writing Center

       My experience at the writing center went very well. I went during tutorial and by the end of the period, I had a better idea of what I wanted to do in my literary analysis, and I figured out what I needed to change in my paper. Before, I had been suffering from severe writer's block throughout the beginning of the paper and formation of paragraphs, I arrived to the writer's center with about half of a paper and not the best idea of what I needed to do. During my appointment, I actually was pointed out to other things I needed to fix.
      Another thing that made the writing center a great experience is that I got in and they were very nice right off the bat. They made sure that I knew who they were, they told me positives and negatives and then they made sure I knew how to fix the negatives and focus on the positives. If I have problems with another paper, I would go back to the writing center regardless of the class requirements.
